Samira Matan is Code for Canada’s new Fellowship Program Coordinator.

Join us in welcoming the newest member of the Code for Canada team: Samira Matan!

As our new Fellowship Program Coordinator, Samira will be responsible for administering Code for Canada’s extensive fellowship recruitment and onboarding process. She’ll be engaging members of the fellowship selection panel, and connecting with speakers and managing logistics for onboarding. She’ll also provide ongoing support for fellows as they strive to be digital rockstars and changemakers inside government.

You can follow Samira on LinkedIn.

Samira comes to Code for Canada via Tanzania, where she was a Regional Director for Operation Groundswell, an NGO offering ethical travel and community service programs for youth around the world. She loves travel — and Timbits — and was trained as a sociocultural anthropologist.

“Anthropology is really the lens through which I see the world,” she says. “I’m fascinated by how people think and how they go about creating change in their communities.”

Code for Canada is thrilled to have Samira on board and working to create an enjoyable and seamless experience for everyone involved in our fellowship program. And she’s thrilled to join Canada’s growing civic tech movement.

“Civic tech is this incredible collision between tech and social justice issues,” she says. “The people involved want to see how tech can be used in government, and how we can blend tech and social justice in a really unique way.”
