👋 Welcome

Hello civic tech friends,

Check out our recap of June activities including project updates, job and volunteer opportunities and resources for Pride Month.

Pride Month 🌈

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month. Pride Month celebrates the contributions of LGBTQ community and remembers the tribulations the community has endured. The LGBTQ community has achieved a lot of progress, but continue to experience discrimination and violence. We want to reaffirm our support to the LGBTQ+ members in our community. We must continue to support the LGBTQ+ community and fight to achieve full equality.

✏️ Code for San Jose Updates

Minh Nguyen, Project Lead, demoed the OpenStreetMap project. OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a community crowdsourcing initiative to democratize geospatial data; Code for San José participates in the project with a focus on the South Bay. OSM is a useful resource and can be used for a variety of Code for San Jose projects. Minh explained how information about buildings, crosswalks, and more, gets added into OSM. Contributions to OSM will enable anyone to use the data and see accurate, local information.
