CODE.GAME, an online graphical programming education platform for children aged 6–16, has securesd its B series funding of $18.1M led by Hillhouse Capital, and supported by Crystal Stream and Qinghan Fund.

Children’s programming is often called the “new Mathematical Olympiad”. But founder Li Tianchi holds that, abstractly speaking, children’s programming is analogous to English. “Inclusion of programing in disciplinary education is grounded on the fact that the talent demand in the AI age makes programming a basic tool,” said Li, adding that “the ultimate goal for including programming as a discipline is to let students know how to solve issues with the mindset like a programmer, instead of purely let them learn ‘examination-oriented programming’ blindly.”

Holding the belief that programming education should be more practical, CODE.GAME provides courses combined with other subjects such as mathematics, physics and astronomy. After finishing the development of graphical coding platform BOX.game, CODE.GAME plans to design a set of programming languages that can merge “programming thinking” into the process of learning other subjects.

CODE.GAME encourages children to learn programming by problem-based learning (PBL), gamification and multi-dimensional assessments. On CODE.GAME platform, children are able to create games, software, animations, and stories, during which they will develop their abilities of logical thinking, task disassembly and creativity, laying a solid foundation for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) subjects.

With AI and a data mining system, courses recommended to students are different. Unlike similar products that use Scratch as their fundamental platform, the low-level implementation of CODE.GAME is fully self-developed.

Li, the founder and CEO of CODE.GAME, says that with the mission of “Cultivate cultivating future creators”, CODE.GAME helps children to take advantages in the upcoming AI futureage. Thise $18.1M will be used to develop new products as well as toand find out how to utilize AI to optimize the online education. By uniting frontline educators and specialists, CODE.GAME is going to fulfill a real ecosystem of AI and programming education.
