It was just a normal Wednesday in August this year, but for the Free Code Camp community in Brno, it was a milestone. We had our first meetup and we were the first to use Bistro Andini — Kiwi.com’s new venue for the tech community.

FreeCodeCamp is an open source project for web tech beginners, focussing on HTML, CSS & JavaScript. It enables frontend newbies to build their web app portfolio, help NGOs, and find a job — all at the same time.

These are some of the things that we learned about from the presentations:

  • the pitfalls of website creation by a single developer
  • a student project focused on barcode scanning
  • websites promoting informatics for high school students

To conclude the official part, we presented on an upcoming frontend bootcamp for beginners in Prague whose graduates will gain all the necessary skills to get a job as a frontend coder.

We ended our first meetup with some informal networking and we really enjoyed the night! A big thank you to Kiwi.com for providing us with the venue.

Join us on October 19

We're meeting again on Thursday, October 19 and the topic is “How to start with…”.

Become a speaker

Are you an experienced frontend developer? We're always searching for speakers willing to share their knowledge with beginners. Let me know if you’re interested.

Hope to see you at Andini!
