The First Step Is Choosing What to Learn

I’ve been down this road before many times, though.

It’s one thing to declare that I’m gunning to learn how to code. It’s another to actually execute on that goal. Oddly, I didn’t think about what and how I’d go about doing it. But you got to start somewhere, right?

After consulting with some friends, I opted to start learning JavaScript first. In terms of application upon completion of learning, I’m not sure. But I’m more interested in being competent in a programming language first and foremost. I chose Codecademy to begin this process because I have an account already created and the interface seems pretty simple to use and conducive to my learning.

Of course, I’ve been down this road before. I don’t want to brag that I’ve made some big achievement — because I haven’t. Codecademy says that learning the fundamentals of JavaScript will take 30 hours, and I’ve only completed the first lesson. There’s still a long way to go and I’m sure I’m going to hit a real rough spot that’ll turn me off from continuing this process — it never fails.

Baby steps though, right?
