TL;DR;

There are multiple ways to deliver value to the business you're working for. Coding is one of them, but there are much more than you can do.

No space for the stereotyped developer

I entered the programming world through game development. Tools like Game Maker, The Game Factory, RPG Maker and alike showed me that I was reasonably good at logical constructions.

At that time, developers still carried the stereotype of weirdos who are unable to speak with real people, and thus, we'd only feel comfortable around machines, making the world around programming the perfect opportunity to find joy at work.

In that scenario, programmers would be alone with their machine, just hammering instructions, living out of pizza and coke, and avoiding as much human contact as possible.

For sure, some people are exactly like this, but I don't think there has ever been much space for people who only focus on coding the software, or at least it has changed a lot since I was 12.
