World-shattering. Lonely? Under-celebrated?

At Codeworks, we’re calling them CodeHers, if you’ll forgive the pun. CodeHers are women from all around the world doing cool things with code.

Female computer scientists, techies, developers and programmers. Mavericks who have been quietly changing the world before programming was even a thing. ‘Keep calm and keep on testing’ the voices told them, as yes, they coded too.

In this five-part series, we take a look at three ‘Godmothers of Tech’. These world-famous CodeHers, and their relentless curiosity got us pretty inspired. We’ll also be meeting two of our Codeworks students past and present.

Why now? ⏱

As we mentioned in our previous post, we need to keep fighting against the huge gender gap in the industry. That’s why at Codeworks we offer 10% off course fees for women.

This need is urgent. The women in this series, together with our discount aim to inspire more females to access the tech scene. Until we’re teaching both male and female students, in a healthy 50/50 split, we have work to do, positively discriminating towards female applicants.

Why Codeworks? 🌞

Why should Codeworks, a Barcelona based Coding Bootcamp be getting to know these women? Well, we’re in the right place tell these stories. We’re in Barcelona: a city making a huge splash on the international tech scene.

Our female students are some of the greatest minds on the planet, and Barcelona employs some of the greatest minds on the planet. From companies like Amazon to Typeform, Glovo to Hola Luz, our city continues to rank highly as one of the best in the world for work. All our female students get the same access to this scene as men.

With a wealth of tech start ups, bootcamps and female only coding initiatives, it’s an inspiring city for all you potential CodeHers and female techies to make your mark.

Why these women? 🙋🏽‍♀️

What’s the connection between our five women? Whatever stage they’re at in their career, they’ve dazzled us with a vast array of golden skills. From the 1800s to now, we’re unearthing their resilience, good humour and work ethic.
