An exciting challenge to help solve a local problem with tech

Developing new technologies in a nonprofit centric city, it was probably only a matter of time before our team would decide to build a platform to help nonprofits with fundraising. Our team loves solving problems using technology. After meeting with one of the nonprofits in town, we learned that many of the technologies that not-for-profit organizations were using were cumbersome and difficult to navigate. Once we saw the opportunity to build high impact software in the nonprofit space, we decided to build a platform that would be informed by and meet the needs of nonprofits.

Excellent technology = lots of communication

GiveGrove is an application we built to help nonprofit organizations run and manage fundraising events. When we designed GiveGrove we wanted to be sure that it was easy for nonprofits to use. However, when our team started building this technology, we quickly learned that there are a lot of aspects about developing tech for fundraising that aren’t about building better technology but are about talking with people about technology. Therefore, we’ve invested a lot of time and energy into both the tech and customer service sides of our product.

From the design standpoint, we are very intentional about our branding. Our platform is colorful and uses animations to help the tech feel approachable to donors during fundraising events. In terms of features, we were sure to enable real-time functionality, which is something that a lot of organizations and donors want.

It’s about the technology, but more importantly, the people using it.

The secret about GiveGrove is that it’s not the tech that makes it so astonishingly different. It’s more about our customer service mentality. We sincerely want the organizations on the platform to have a pleasant experience with the technology as opposed to sacrificing them to the technology.

It’s no secret that time and resources come at a premium for nonprofit organizations. Everyone doesn’t have the time to learn new technology. Because of this, our team takes a hands-on approach with the organizations on our platform. We’ve taken steps to make sure that each client receives in-person help. From on-boarding meetings that assist organizations with getting onto the platform to attending fundraising events to help donors log onto the platform, we’ve learned that designing a simple, easy to use, product is great, but excellent customer support is the differentiator in this space.
