This blog-post shares my experience so far with Udacity Google India Challenge Scholarship entwined with the reasons why this program is totally worth your time and efforts!

Is it worth it? Yes, it is! Photo by Robert Baker on Unsplash

My journey with Udacity started a year back when I was a beginner in Android App Development. After a bit of online research, I landed up on this AMAZING platform- UDACITY where I was taught Android App Development from the Google employees themselves. The online course was self-paced and free to access (unless you want a nanodegree certificate). According to me, this Android Basic course is a must for all the android beginners!

So when early this year I learned about the Udacity Google Scholarship Applications rolling out, I filled the application for Android Developer track and waited for the results! On February 7, I got the selection mail for Phase-1! I was really excited to start this course!!

Scholarship badge that came along with the selection mail!! *-*

The Phase-1 of this course kick-started on February 14 (Android Love!) with an overwhelming Slack channel for all the scholarship recipients and a discussion forum on Udacity. With almost nearing the end of this phase and bracing up for the next, here’s the list of reasons that make Udacity scholarship challenges totally worth one’s time and effort!

#1 Learn from the Best Professionals in Industry

Take up any Udacity course , in my case, Android Developer track, we are taught course concepts by the professionals who are or have worked in the respective field in depth.

#2 Easy to Follow Course Content

The course is broken down into smaller, focused lessons which are further divided into modules that contain videos and exercises. The videos are of quite short duration with the longest video having time duration less than 10 minutes!

#3 Awesome Slack Community

A slack group pertaining to the course material is made having Udacity moderators for the smooth sailing of the discussions. Shedding my imposter syndrome and getting inspired from my peer scholars, I am still trying to catch up with the daily downpour of Android related knowledge in our slack channel! Phew!!

#4 Get Your Doubts Cleared Instantly

Having said about the glory of slack channel, here’s an instance that highlights the liveliness of this channel. I had posted a query in this channel and voila! I got around 26 replies from android developers all across India within 15 minutes!! People help each other selflessly with prompt.

#5 Get Rich Reviews on Your Work

Udacity also has a discussion forum (as if the slack wasn’t enough! :P) where one can post course exercise solutions and get reviews from Udacity mentors within a day. One can also showcase their mobile apps to fellow developers and get rich feedback and review on their work!

#6 Keeping Up with Recent Tech Competitions

The discussion forums are not only in-sync with the course content but also serves as a platform to share and know about tech events and competitions. For instance, we have an active channel regarding Google Summer of Code 2018 right from its application period started. The channel helped the past or present GSoC mentors, participants and interested students to discuss on their doubts and share updates.

Udacity Scholars Meetup!!

#7 Local Meet-Ups for Developers

This scholarship course has also helped developers living near-by for study groups or conduct meetups over the weekend. Like, recently, the scholars in Delhi-NCR had the Delhi-NCR Udacity scholars meetup which was infused with tech sessions and fun!

In nutshell, this opportunity is an explosive package (in a good way :P) for all the learners, enthusiasts and beginners by Udacity India. This should not be missed at all! Keep a note for the next year application roll out.

P.S.: This is my first blog on Medium. Claps and encouragement would be appreciated! :) Thank you!
