Initially, we were going for a ‘puzzle’ style game to showcase the interactivity aspect of VR. In addition, we also wanted to incorporate a darker more mysterious environment with engaging audio.

However, after creating a prototype dark room with immersive audio, the tutors suggested that we focus purely on the experience without the puzzle aspect as it might take away from the atmosphere. We decided to keep the interactivity simple, yet necessary where they would only pick up a torch and use buttons/levers to advance through each stage. The immersion would be achieved through dynamic elements such as lights and objects.

The following is a brief explanation of how we plan on setting out the experience:

  • Stage 1: User starts off in the pavilion during day time, as it would be in real life. This is also where the on boarding would occur, getting them used to the controls. Lively audio with crowd noises and birds.
  • Stage 2: After certain amount of time (30s to 60s) the environment fades to black and it’s night time. The audio has changed to a mysterious sound track.
  • Stage 3: Warped space, completely new environment.
  • Stage 4: another warped space and new environment.
  • Stage 5: Return back to stage 1 and end of experience.

We thought that purely focusing on creating an immersive VR experience would have a much stronger link to stress. Below is a diagram of how the stages of stress will be represented in our experience.
