Week 1

We as a group started off by researching into BIM and power behind it. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that equips architecture, engineering, and construction professionals with the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.

I’ve then further look into the unknown area of 4D, 5D, and 6D BIM. And I’ve found wast that as you create information model, we can now share data to different components generating accurate program data for your project, known as 4d BIM. You can then link cost data to various components and informational model to generate estimates, and this process is known as 5d BIM. Taking another step further and adding information such as expected lifespan and maintenance requirements for the component to support facility management is what we called 6d BIM. It contain details about manufacturer, when it was installed, maintenance, optimal operation and its expected life span.
