In the past few weeks it became apparent to the HoloLens team that we were focusing too much on how to connect the HoloLens to Arduino and had lost a bit of sight in the story telling and our hologram development. Using research I had conducted a few weeks ago and the knowledge of what we could achieve, I put together a story board of what we could show.

SCENE 01:

  • What you see: You “enter” the orb, the pulsating fades/stops and colour dims. The object inside the orb that sits on top begins to pulsate and becomes saturated in colour. “Tap on the hypothalamus to release CRH”. Once tapped particles will move from the top object to bottom object within the orb.
  • Meaning: The Hypothalamus, located in the brain, released corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) and sends it to eh pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain.
  • Extra options: Include something similar to “Anything that has a yellow glow can be tapped on for more information, try it on the object you see in front of you” (User taps on glowing object to receive informative text about hypothalamus)

SCENE 02:

  • What you see: Bottom object will become saturated in colour and start pulsating. “ Tap on pituitary gland to release ACTH”. Thick line from pituitary gland will animated downwards and form the adrenal gland. Particles will move from pituitary gland down the line to adrenal gland.
  • Meaning: Once CRH has reached the Pituitary Gland, it releases adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) which moves with the blood to the adrenal gland, located above the kidneys

SCENE 03

  • What you see: Adrenal gland starts to “come to life”. Cortisol is released in the form of particles emitting outward from the centre of the adrenal gland. This could populate the entire room, shooting outwards to signify stress hormone has been released.
  • Meaning: The Adrenal Gland releases cortisol which is the stress hormone

SCENE 04

  • What you see: Central orb begins to change colours from red to blue and starts to pulsate. Two secondary orbs will manifest, positioned with the orb in the centre. The user must choose the red or blue orb which will trigger neural activity within the orb.
  • Meaning: The user then chooses fight or flight orb which triggers neurons in the brain to fire through decision making.
