Free recall takes place when you’re given a list of items, and you remember them in a specific order to retrieve it more effectively. Cued recall happens when you’re tested on the list of items with specific cues or questions. When a cue is involved, you’ll likely remember it when you otherwise wouldn’t. Serial recall, on the other hand, is your ability to remember items in the chronological order they occurred.

The last step of our memory mechanism is retrieval, where we attempt to re-access information which has been encoded and stored.
