I was on twitter some couple of days ago when I saw a tweet by Github celebrating 100 million merged pull requests on her platform but I was not moved. I was in a vehicle when I thought of the fact that many developers won’t count this celebration as significant to the software development world today as I did . So, I decided to share with millions and billions of people why we should take the 100 million merged pull requests celebration as significant. Enjoy it!!!

Development is at High Level

It occurred to me that the celebration shows that developers are building , products are being built and learning is also taking place too. What makes me believe again that development is at a high peak is that despite other platforms like Bitbucket, GitLab, Gitea and others, Github has gotten 100 million pull requests merged and I am 75% sure that a few of other platforms have more than 20 million merged pull requests. Many issues being raised and also unmerged pull requests on Github is also a pointer to this. Many tutorial source codes have been pushed to Github for Newbies.

Products have been launched

Ranging from frameworks to SAAS (Software As A Service), many of these have been developed on Github. Of course, we know Github is the hub for most open source projects like Angular, React js, Laravel, Bootstrap,Flask, Back bone, CakePhp and so on. Even products source code or let me say, software as a service source code have been pushed to github for deployment on Heroku and other cloud hosting platforms. Kudos to top technology companies in the world like Google Developers, @facebook, Microsoft + Open Source and other awesome companies that have made many if their projects open source. I love you.

Learning Git

With the rise in software development, it is important for developers, that don’t know how to use Git and any of the platform it is being used, to learn how it works. Git and Github, as the case is, has saved me more hours of writing the same code due to my PC crashing. Mentors, it is important to teach your mentees the art of Gitting(use of Git). You could learn how to use Git on Udacity, Udemy, Codementor , freeCodeCamp, Youtube and other platforms.

Develop more

You can’t afford to be a developer and you won’t build stuffs. Developers like Taylor Otwell, Jeffrey Way, GrahamCampbell, Prosper Otemuyiwa, Fabien Potencier and many more always thrill me with their number of contributions on Github. I have learnt that the more you contribute, the better you get closer to being an expert at what you do. Build stuffs and push your codes to GitHub for people to contribute, collaborate more, fork more repositories and contribute. I have not heard of the the developer with the highest forked repositories in the world(Just kidding). Kudos to Git-Awards for making contribution on github fun by ranking based on stars on user’s repositories. You are awesome.

Conclusion

I believe I have been able to draw your attention to the significance of Github’s celebration. Thanks for reading. Please, I will love recommendations for this posts.

I will like you to follow me on GitHub @goodnesskay and star my repositories. You can follow me on twitter @goodnesskayode and share my post, It will really encourage me.
