In line with the recent changes announced by the College Board for the Create Performance Task and Exam format, we have updated our AP CSP course content to better prepare your students for the AP CSP Exam. Read below to learn more about our course updates and how to make them visible to your students.

Overview of the Updated Materials

  • A new Create Performance Task module has been developed to provide scaffolding that covers student handouts and task requirements, offers a space for project brainstorming, and addresses questions and concerns before beginning the Create Performance Task. This resource is available in the supplemental materials in each AP CSP course.
  • Reflection questions in the Practice Create Performance Task modules have been updated to match the four categories covered in the written response section of the AP exam. This resource is available in the supplemental materials in each AP CSP course.
  • Our Review: AP® Computer Science Principles course now mirrors the new structure of the final exam and will soon include written response questions released by the College Board later this year.
  • Our sample Create Performance Task tutorials have been updated and now include answers to four written response questions, graded using the new scoring guidelines.

How To Update Your Course Sections

Step 1: In your AP CSP section, replace Module 16: Create Performance Task with the ‘Create Performance Task — Effective 2023–2024’ module from the supplemental materials. In Lesson 5 of this module, remove exercises that do not match the programming language you are teaching in your course. Watch how to complete this step here.

Step 2: In each Practice Performance Task module of your AP CSP section, replace the Reflection exercise with its corresponding Reflection exercise found in the ‘Updated Practice Create Performance Task Exercises’ module within the supplemental materials. Watch how to complete this step here.

Step 3: Assign your students the new Create Performance Task videos in AP Classroom before starting the Create Performance Task module:

  • Create Performance Task: Overview
  • Create Performance Task: Guidelines
  • Create Performance Task: Pacing Your Project
  • Create Performance Task: Categories and Questions

Step 4: From January 2024 onward, as your class begins reviewing for the end-of-course exam, assign modules from the Review: AP® Computer Science Principles course. This review course will include sample questions that the College Board will release later this year.
