Hey there. I’m Neal Sales-Griffin, CEO of CodeNow. I joined the team in late 2016 to develop an innovative new program and curriculum. It’s based on my experiences founding one of the first coding bootcamps back in 2011.

You can read more about my personal story and how I landed such an awesome job here.

Our team has been hard at work making CodeNow the best place for beginners to learn app development. We’ve got exciting announcements to share with you!

A Brand New CodeNow Website

You now have a place to direct anyone who’d like to join CodeNow as a student, volunteer, or program sponsor. If you’re a high school student living in New York City, San Francisco, or Chicago, you can apply for our Spring workshops today!

We’ve also opened our new program to CodeNow alumni who are currently in high school. So if you have completed a CodeNow workshop, we want you to come back and learn all the new things we have to share with you. You can learn more about our new program here.

Now you can learn with CodeNow throughout High School:

Since 2011, our weekend workshops have taught over 2,000 students. There have been some incredible outcomes: Alberta, Annie Laurie and Patience, Megan, Malik, Hector, and Tria to name a few. But we’ve left many of our students wanting more upon completion of the workshop.

We recognize how important it is to follow through on that initial exposure. We want to do more to prepare students for college, tech internships, and their future careers.

With our new model, the weekend workshops will continue to be our bread and butter. But now, students will also come out of the workshop with a set of next steps, and a community supporting them. They’ll get even better at designing, coding, and shipping new products.

Post-workshop, students will have access to an array of online courses. They’ll receive guidance through a learning platform I built called Lantern. They’ll also have the opportunity to compete in hackathons and a summer program. This way, they will continue learning how to make real software to solve problems they care about.

To provide the best experience, we’ve switched to a tuition and scholarship model. Our new multi-year program costs $1,000 per student. Through fundraising and donations, we’re providing scholarships for students in financial need. You can click here to learn how it works and if you’re eligible.

Are you a high school student interested in coding, design, and entrepreneurship? Join the CodeNow community: Apply Today!

Here’s how you can help us teach thousands more how to solve meaningful problems with software:

  1. Share this announcement and our new website with your friends. We recommend doing so via email, Facebook, Twitter, and anywhere else!
  2. Connect us with a forward thinking company or foundation we should work with. If you work at a company interested in providing student scholarships — talk to us!
  3. Introduce us to a young person who is curious about tech and willing to work hard. I’d bet you know someone in high school right looking for a place to start their coding journey. We’re looking for self-motivated teenagers. People who want to make apps of their own and build new and interesting projects with software.
  4. Volunteer for one of our upcoming workshop cohorts in New York, the Bay Area, or Chicago!

CodeNow wouldn’t have made it this far over 6 years without the support of such a helpful community. And as you all know, every ounce of support you can provide makes a huge difference.

If you can, please consider donating to support our scholarships. If you’ve got more time than money, you can volunteer and share your knowledge with our students.

Finally, if there’s anything we can do to be helpful to you, let us know! We’d be happy to guest speak, provide career advice, answer questions about the program, and more!

If there’s just one thing you do, give our website a peek and pass it along to someone we can help.

We hope to hear from you soon!
