Sharing and storing code and data is essential to collaborative research. While working in a group, having visibility into active projects is crucial for researchers to get work done. We created Private Groups to be a secure hub that connects researchers so they can share code and data while also simplifying administrative tasks (like managing membership and retaining up-to-date copies of research) and spend more time supporting the work being done in the lab.

Private Groups is a dashboard where researchers can see all members within a working group and projects shared across the group. Research can now be worked on in a personal space with the knowledge that the code and data will always be synced back to the group, reducing friction for future sharing, collaboration, or preservation for future projects.

Researchers can see capsules they own and are sharing with others as well as all other capsules active within the group.

Group administrators now have full visibility into all members within a private group, can add and disband members from within Code Ocean, and manage group capsule privileges in a single space. At any time, admins can duplicate capsules, allowing them to retain up-to-date work while not disrupting the workflow of the researcher, who always remains the primary owner of the original capsule. In addition, private groups duplicate group capsules in the event a member leaves the group, seamlessly preserving code and data for future projects.

Multiple administrators can access Private Groups to showcase research, preserve working code and data, or manage membership easily.

Our goal for Private Groups is to allow teams, big and small, a private and secure way to collaborate on research, give team heads more tools to facilitate research, and increase visibility and access to up-to-date code and data from in-progress projects.
