CoderDojo KidVantage @ KGISL
I hope everyone have noticed the new word “KidVantage”, curious to know what it is?. From now and for all the upcoming events we call it “CoderDojo KidVantage”. We have provided innovative methods for kids to learn computer. But we are going to enhance it further and provide premium learning materials. Hence “KidVantage” :-)
Our 5th CoderDojo Session with KidVantage
This time our team was very specific, we want the kids to be completely involved in graphical programming. We planned to introduce them to a tool that makes them enthusiastic and motivates them to program.
Thanks to Dr. Jey Veerasamy — Director , Center for computer science education and outreach, The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). When I discussed with him about our CoderDojo events and our vision, Dr. Jey suggested me with “Alice”. Alice is a tool with interactive graphics that will motivated kids to program. The tool is being used at UTD to train kids during the summer camps. I was very interested with the tool and enthusiastic to implement it for our session.
Things worked just like we planned it. Our team was very happy that the Alice created a good impact on the kids to be motivated in leaning computer. The Alice paved way for their creativity and imagination to be invoked. Kids loved Alice, even we mentors love it ;-), just saying the reality :-D.

You can just import your favorite cartoon character’s in Alice, animate them and enjoy the show. Kids used Alice to create their own screenplay, games animation, story board and finally they learned object based programming in a interesting way.
Would they be bored with this way of learning? No way!

Richardson, the game maker who was very curious with Alice and created a game “Catch the flying Bird” using it.

Raagavi, the best story hunter, made a animated story using Alice. That was very interesting. Showed us how creative kids think.

Srinidhi, the young explorer who loves to learn new things and a TDD learner as well!
Jermi loves designing, Abhinaya an aspiring web developer, and all the kids are having their own talent. The solution is to find and bring them out.

The Secret of Success, is of no secret. All you need is to have a mentor to be Successful! It is important for a…mykgi.sl
From this session, we have planned to mentor kids individually to personalize their learning, so that the mentor/volunteer can keep track of their interest and help the kids achieve higher limits. Kids can get to their mentor at any time they require help. Mentor will provide the response as early as possible.
