Its only been three weeks since our last update, but we’ve been working hard to bring our customers the features they need to thrive in the competitive world of tech recruiting. We’re proud to introduce:

The CodeSubmit In-App IDE for Reviewing Assignments

One of our very first customers told us that reviewing candidate submissions was her biggest pain-point in the developer hiring process. Downloading zipped files to her computer or trying to obtain access to a private repository wasn’t cutting it. For CodeSubmit, it became clear that the hiring team should be able to view a candidate’s submission in-app. So, we’ve added a slightly modified version of the fantastic open source Monaco Editor to the CodeSubmit platform. The new IDE provides two functions:

  1. It allows you to view a candidate’s submission in-app. This means you don’t have to pull the repository in your own code editor or IDE. Simply select the name of the candidate you wish to review and their submission will be right there waiting for you.
  2. It allows you to preview your assignments before sending them to candidates. This provides a little peace of mind so that you know exactly what your candidates are going to see before you hit send.

Another cool thing to mention about the IDE is that it also works on mobile, so that you can review candidate submissions easily from any device at any time.

Comments

Users can now add comments to a candidate’s solution quickly and easily. All members of the hiring team will receive notifications when a new comment is added to one of their candidates, so everyone stays informed. Easy as that.

User Roles

In the MVP, we only had one user role: Admin. Now, we have three.

Admin — Maintains and administers the account at all levels. Admins can do it all. They can create assignments, invite candidates, review and comment on submissions, invite new users to the CodeSubmit platform, and manage the subscription. Our Admin users have full access to the entire platform.

Hiring Manager — Basically everything the admin can do, minus adding new users and managing the subscription. Hiring managers have full access to everything candidate-facing; they can create new assignments, invite candidates, and review and comment on submissions.

Reviewer —Reviews and comments on submissions. As a reviewer, you will not be able to edit assignments, create new ones, or invite candidates. Reviewer privileges are modified further through our next new feature:

Whats next?

  • The Library — we’re working on creating fun-but-insightful and easy-to-customize take-home assignments for a variety of roles. More to come soon!
