We’ve added some new features to the CodeSubmit platform and we’re excited to tell you guys all about them 😎

Writing an effective take-home assignment is hard (we’ve written about it here). And so, while you’ll always be able to add your own assignment to CodeSubmit, we’re excited to announce that you may not have to. Thats because:

The first library assignments are now available! 🎉

And they’re Star Wars edition!

• Our new frontend assignment, “Wookie Movies”, tests candidate skill in either React, Vue, Angular, or Backbone frameworks.
• Our new backend assignment, “Wookie Books” tests candidate skill in Django and Flask.

All of our library assignments follow a strict set of rules:

• Customizable across languages but role-specific, ensuring that you’re testing the right skills for the job.
• Resemble real work tasks in a real work environment (no brainteasers or unnecessary algorithmic knowledge)
• Can be completed in 2–4 hours by a candidate
• Are fun and creative, giving candidates the opportunity to produce something thats actually pretty cool

CodeSubmit library assignments provide hiring managers with insight to what their candidates are capable of and where their strengths and weaknesses lie. And, most importantly, all library assignments are fully customizable. We designed them to be great on their own, but also easy to modify to fit the needs of your role. So give one a spin, and let us know which language or framework you think we should add to the library next!

But wait, theres more! Once your candidate has completed the assignment, you can:

Run submissions in-app using our Virtual Machine! 🎉

Not too keen on downloading a candidate’s code and running it on your local machine? No problem. Candidate submissions can now be run in-app using our virtual machine.

Simply select the candidate, select the “run” tab, provision the VM, and you’ll be on your way!

Tip: You can share the VM with the candidate, empowering them to set up their own machine and take control of how their final output looks and feels.
