Jupyter Notebook is an open-source web app that you can use to create documents that contain code and visualizations.

Jupyter's name references the three core programming languages supported by Jupyter, which are Julia, Python, and R, and also respect to Galileo’s notebooks recording the discovery of the moons of Jupiter.

Julia is a high-level, high-performance, dynamic programming language. Many of its features are well suited for numerical analysis and computational science.

Why is it called Julia?

Why the name, Julia? That's everybody's favorite question. There's no good reason, really.
It just seemed like a pretty name.

Python is an interpreted high-level, general-purpose programming language. Python’s design philosophy focus on code readability and flexibility.

Why is it called Python?

Named by “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”

Ris a programming language and free software environment for statistical computing and graphics

Why the name R?

R is named partly after the first names of the first two R authors

Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman
