10 Things I Hate About Python

My subjective and objective problems with the Python programming language.

Those who follow my blog closely are likely aware that my favorite programming language is a rather young language to come out of MIT around a decade ago, Julia. This, however, was not always the case, and my programming journey actually began over ten years ago in Adobe ActionScript 2.0, of which the entire technology has been deprecated — truly demonstrating my age when it comes to programming computers. Through my evolution, I dabbled and developed in several languages, taking a jump from ActionScript to beginner friendly languages like Python and other languages like Java and C++. When I selected my domain, I wanted to find a field that was both new and exciting to me — and this ended up being the field of Data Science. At the time, all resources pointed me towards R, a rather old and venerable interpreted statistical programming language.

With the shift in the industry towards Python, and myself also being enrolled in school, I soon found myself picking up Python once again and becoming much more familiar with the language and all of its “ quirks” and of course, problems.
