“AI” In The Workplace Just Makes Me Sad
A tale of two cities, a coin with two sides, or perhaps something with two cheeks? Thanks a bunch.
I’m quite the advocate of new technology, embracing all kinds of fun and modern things including user interfaces, mice, trackpads, even colour displays and phones that apparently work by some kind of wireless too.
We are truly living in a modern age of wonder where we’re all connected, plugged in, enabled, and happier and more productive than ever!
Well, no, that’s not completely true is it.
Whilst the invention of the colour display, for example, gave us syntax highlighting, and less CRT burn in, it also enabled the ultimate development of the horror that is Visual Studio Code — an editor with more plugins than a browser, more updates than Windows, and more security holes than, well, Windows.
Technology, fellow progressives, can be very much a double-edged sword.
Mobile phones¹, are also a good case in point. I do quite like my personal computing device, that also has a phone app — though, admittedly, I don’t use it much as I really don’t like actually talking to being, being a stereotypical software engineer, and all that.
I’m all into sending and receiving messages with it though, and being all passive aggressive on X, being…
