How to win friends and influence managerial people to just go away and leave you alone so you can do your Great Work.

Project Scope

Us long term players in the grand game have a number of tools¹ at our disposal to make every day life just that little bit easier. It’s no surprise, after all, that we’ve adapted and learned to survive in the often soul crushing and management dominated arena in order to great excellent and innovative software under ‘difficult’ conditions.

Why?
You may well ask.

Because we’re in the game for the love of it — we’re born problem solvers, fixers, and pioneers and no-one’s going to psychologically drain that out of us no matter how many meetings we’re invited to, swim lanes we have to navigate, or silly little bits of coloured paper you throw at us.

I often to refer to tips and tricks of our trade during my various rants, sorry articles, but have decided to kick off a list in order to continue this irregular series (“A Software Engineer’s Secret Weapon”).
This, you could say, is part 2 — following on from
Nodding : A Software Engineer’s Secret Weapon from back in Decemember 2021.
Hopefully I’ll continue to add more if my schedule of irrelevant meetings allows.
