CodeX: 2021 Year In Review
Our journey and accomplishments so far
It’s going to be a year since CodeX was founded and what a killer year was this for us. We, here at CodeX run on the principle of ‘Education for Everyone’ and we are able to achieve it only with the help of our wonderful and dedicated writers and our exceptional editorial team. So before moving any further, I want to thank all the writers and volunteers who are the pillars of CodeX and shoulder the same responsibility as we do with wholeheartedness and self-lessness. A big shout out to our amazing readers who are incredibly supportive to our writers for writing more content and especially for us to expand our publication.
We started with around 5 to 10 writers and now we are all the way up to 2000+ writers and we are expecting to triple this number by the end of the next year. To enhance our writers’ status and to scale the base, we are more than excited to announce the future plans which will be implemented real soon.
Firstly, we are thinking of conducting writing contests for different topics on a monthly or quarterly basis and the winners can expect to receive certain monetary rewards. The main purpose of arranging such contests is to help writers get exposure to how different authors who have varied levels of experience in their respective domain approach a topic for writing their articles. Writers will also be confronted with a lot of high-quality content which can be taken as inspirations for their future works.
Secondly, an expansion in the categories covered at CodeX can be expected. This particular plan is to widen our writer base and give much freedom for writers to cover their topic of interest. Doing this can also help the publication provide as much tech and programming content as possible to ensure readers are not limited to certain topics or categories.
These are some of the ideas which writers can expect in the next year. There are also other different plans but they are still under discussion.
Our editors work diligently to make CodeX thrive and it wouldn’t have been possible to reach the level we are right now without their help. We slowly built up the team and currently, it consists of five amazing editors who are Nevin Katz, Dr. Stuart Woolley, Attila Vágó, Omar Zahran, and Christianlauer. They are not just editors but are amazing authors whose stories had made a significant impact on CodeX. Here’s what each of the editors got to say about CodeX:

“I’d been engaged with CodeX for some time as a writer before I was asked to join the editorial team in 2021 and have always thought of it as an interesting and informative technical publication in the area of software engineering. It’s important that we all share both our knowledge and experience so that we can grow together and I can very much see as I look through submitted articles every day that both the quality and quantity of submissions continue to improve.

Even in this short time as an editor, I have been able to see the excitement of new writers contributing to CodeX to show a variety of opinions on tech, innovation, and computer programming. In this year, we have gone through two iterations of branding, each done with conveying specific messages. Now, we want to break down each one of the iterations to let our readers and writers acknowledge the message of our logos and the reason for going through such iterations.
Starting off with the first logo, the primary colors used are vibrant red and classic white to represent the freshness of our content. We want to make sure the logo looks techy which explains the reason for the type of font used here. The depiction we are trying to make here is that CodeX is a tech publication producing fresh content.
First Iteration (second logo)
As time passed, the first logo quite didn’t convey the message properly. During the first few months of CodeX, we didn’t curate the content but accepted every submission we received. But then we started to accept articles based on certain criteria we formed.
So, we wanted to convey that CodeX is now a tech publication housing only high-quality articles. We decided to bring that premium look by first changing our primary color palette being red and white to bright blue and white since blue is one of the finest colors to bring that high-quality look. Then we played with several fonts and landed on the one we think made the logo look bold representing the techy look.
Second Iteration (present logo)
This time, we wanted to do it professionally. We consulted designers and logo specialists to jump on to the best logo we could possibly have and we ended up with the one we currently have. The main thing we want to represent through this logo is that CodeX is now turned into a more premium publication in the tech space.
The color palette we decided to go on with is matte black and silvery-white because both these colors when combined bring that classic look which many of the original colors failed to. We went through an intensive search for the right font as it has to represent a premium look still maintaining the techy look with a pinch of modernity. After a brutal search, we managed to find the right font that perfectly fits our criteria. We also played a little with the letter X to give a more techy look that ultimately adds more elegance.
We are more concerned about our growth in the future and we have laid several different plans for better development.

We are more than excited to implement our plans and ideas which are handcrafted with the help of our editorial team keeping in mind our readers and writers and ultimately boosting their experience with our publication.
This year has been a roller-coaster for our team and an exciting one too since we discussed and figured things collectively. The support we got from our writers and readers cannot be measured and motivates us to do even more greater things.
