In the modern corporate dystopia companies will quite rightly not tolerate any kind of personal conflict, most especially if it involves raised voices, the slamming of doors, and the occasional defenestration of project managers¹ (something that is sadly somewhat missed, I may add).

Escalations firstly to management for “a word”, onward through HR’s series of disciplinary actions, and ultimately the company’s main exit door (whilst carrying your possessions in a cardboard box and being accompanied both by security and the Head of HR) are the inevitable result.

However, this protracted and well defined process consisting of various levels of disciplinary action against the employee can also be used in a very negative way to stifle real discussion and to prevent any challenge of notional authority in much the same way as your common or garden totalitarian state or particularly fervent community notes writer on X.

As a result this stifling of what would be a primarily frank and honest discussion of company policy via conventional (and possibly somewhat heated) social interactions, the whole situation can easily become detrimental to the healthy and open operation of a modern day…
