This is the fourth edition of CrunchX and here are the stories and resources which we thought were worth spending the time.

1. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra initial review: Ultimate reinvention?

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. Samsung just launched the Galaxy S22 Ultra and I have one conclusion and conclusion only. It’s a Note. But maybe note was too last decade, so it got rebranded to Ultra. All the specs, the look, the S-Pen, the build, everything is exactly what you’d expect from the Note, so I won’t be surprised if people will keep calling the duck a duck, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Note 22. Written by Mike Lowe on Pocket-Lit and editorial selection by Attila Vágó. Read the article here: https://www.pocket-lint.com/phones/reviews/samsung/159954-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-review

2. The laptop with no ports: Exactly what no one asked for

When Steve Jobs pulled the MacBook Air out of a manila envelope, every single jaw dropped. Craob X is apparently trying to prove the cyclicality of history true by teasing what’s probably going to be the ultra in ultra-books. The thinnest ever. No ports. Zero. Nada. Just a thin sheet of metal and glass that does stuff for you. The problem is, Nobody asked for it because we more or less had this for ages, it’s called the iPad, and everybody likes it. I have a feeling Craob X will be axed — pun intended — before it ever sees the light of day. Written by Anyron Copeman on Tech Advisor and editorial selection by Attila Vágó. 3. That DevOps Guy

I often spend a non-trivial amount of time with both Docker and Kubernetes and don’t always have the time to read through long tutorials just to get to grips with either a new concept or the nuances of an existing one — and there’s where short, clear, precise video summaries are best.
I recommend taking a look at That DevOps Guy on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFe9-V_rN9nLqVNiI8Yof3w) whose videos are information-rich, clear, and (strangely for Kubernetes!) a lot of fun. Editorial selection by Dr. Stuart Woolley.

4. 10 Best Machine Learning Algorithms

The term ‘machine learning’ and algorithms associated with the field can be somewhat confusing, but I came across a short informative article giving a brief summary of some of the more useful algorithms in use today. A great jumping-off point for further exploration. Written by Martin Anderson on Unite.ai and editorial selection by Dr. Stuart Woolley. Read the article here: https://www.unite.ai/ten-best-machine-learning-algorithms/

5. Computer Scientists Prove Why Bigger Neural Networks Do Better

We see the terms AI and neural networks a lot these days. For so long there have been accepted parameters on what the structure of these networks looks like. This article outlines why these networks need to be larger for the way that neural networks continue to be utilized in the future. Written by Mordechai Rorvig on Quanta Magazine and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. 6. The Best Wordle Starting Word Has Been Figured Out With (Computer) Science

Wordle has taken the world by storm, leading to an acquisition by the New York Times. This simple puzzle game has captured the imagination of the masses, and many have wondered what is the best starting word for the game. A computer scientist has answered this question in addition to using programming to find out the worst word as well. Written by Darryn Bonthuys on Gamespot and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. 7. This old programming language is much more important than you might expect. Here’s why

It seems that there are new programming languages popping up at every turn. But sometimes it is the familiarity with a language that wins the day. This article from ZDNet takes a look at the popularity of the COBOL language, one of the oldest programming languages out there. And why it will likely continue to be popular even as it continues to age. Written by Owen Hughes on ZDNet and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. 8. Setting up BigQuery JSON Extract: Made Easy 101

Terminology and Best Practices for using BigQuery JSON Extraction Functions. Written by Manish Jena on Hevo Data and editorial selection by Christianlauer. Read the article here: https://hevodata.com/learn/bigquery-json-extract/?fbclid=IwAR2-Kc6R74U0ZBkaMy7MTRK-2xZnvROE22Rns-SVb8keGTPv1GbsfaSKhRc

9. How to put machine learning models into production

Theoretical background and a step-by-step example of creating a machine learning model. Written by Rising Odegua on The Overflow (a blog by Stack Overflow) and editorial selection by Christianlauer. Read the article here: https://stackoverflow.blog/2020/10/12/how-to-put-machine-learning-models-into-production/?fbclid=IwAR3h-iDZM5sRKGnWQQOTZ-cv7ye7zOTWIaNjdFV2E-QIEQsjdQ8-VoifRWM
