This is the fifth edition of CrunchX and here are the stories and resources which we thought were worth spending the time.

1. The new U.S. export rules designed to freeze Russian tech

In the wake of the political pressures in the Ukraine and Russia’s invasion of the country, there have been ripple effects in the country. This is a great explainer of the new process and how economic sanctions on Russia could potentially impact the flow of new technologies to the citizens of the country. Written by Paresh Dave and Jeffrey Dastin on Reuters and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. Read the article here: https://www.reuters.com/technology/new-us-export-rules-designed-freeze-russian-tech-2022-02-25/

2. Technology Trends Transforming The Advertising Landscape

As the way that we access the internet has changed with mobile devices, the way that companies advertise has changed drastically. There is more availability but this has not led to efficiency. This article is a great look at the challenges that modern advertisers face in the modern digital economy. Written by Ben John on Forbes and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. Read the article here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2022/02/25/technology-trends-transforming-the-advertising-landscape/?sh=6f5585c11f2f

3. How technology can help solve your labor crisis

The way that tech has impacted many industries continues to be vast. A great example of this is how restaurants have started to use tech tools to tackle the ever-present labor crisis through different tools that were previously underutilized in the foodservice industry. Written by Zach Goldstein on Pizzamarketplace.com and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. Read the article here: https://www.pizzamarketplace.com/blogs/how-technology-can-help-solve-your-labor-crisis/

4. Blockchain Technology Is Changing The Real Estate Industry

Blockchain, NFTs, and cryptocurrency are all hot topics in the tech world currently. But a use case for this new technology that many might not have considered is real estate. Through NFTs and the blockchain, the transfer of ownership could be changed forever as this article points out. Written by Gabriel Khoury on The National Law Review and editorial selection by Omar Zahran. 5. Swift — Generics

Generics have been in the Swift language for some time now and if you’re familiar with C++ then you’re most likely familiar with the concept behind them from the Standard Template Library. As one of the most powerful features of the language, they’re an essential subject to be at least familiar with. The Swift website itself has one of the clearest and most straightforward introductions. Documentation from the Swift Programming Language team and editorial selection by Dr. Stuart Woolley. Read the documentation here: https://docs.swift.org/swift-book/LanguageGuide/Generics.html

6. Oh My ZSH!

I, like many people, do most of the work either on the command line or in notebooks, and having a well-set up and efficient CLI environment is essential. To that end, I highly recommend you take a look at “oh my zsh” — an open-source framework for managing your Zsh configuration, as they say. It has many excellent plugins to make your life so much easier, I recommend McFly for history searching, zsh-autosuggestions, and git for starters. Very much worth getting your head around! Have a look at the application here: https://ohmyz.sh/. Editorial selection by Dr. Stuart Woolley.

7. OKatBest

For a change, I’m going to recommend a really useful app rather than a website — if you work in macOS like myself or are prepared to do some building yourself. Instead of going to various random websites and pasting it private data to do conversions and translations, you can do it all locally with Boop. It’s already got a lot of functionality but is also extendable locally as well as being macOS native, free, and open source. I can’t explain it better than they do. View the application here: https://boop.okat.best/. Editorial selection by Dr. Stuart Woolley.

8. Divide and Conquer Algorithm Introduction

What the Divide and Conquer Algorithm is all about and how can it be implemented using Python programming language. An article written and published on GeeksForGeeks and editorial selection by Christianlauer. Read the article here: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/divide-and-conquer-algorithm-introduction/

9. Privacy-Enhancing Technologies: From Buzz to Reality

Enterprises are adopting more robust privacy and data protection regulations, but there are limits to an approach based solely on privacy-enhancing technologies. Written by Sophie Stalla-Bourdillon on TDWI and editorial selection by Christianlauer. Read the article here: https://tdwi.org/articles/2022/02/24/dwt-all-privacy-enhancing-technologies-from-buzz-to-reality.aspx

10. A Deep Look at JSON vs. XML, Part 3: XML and the Future of JSON

A comprehensive comparison of JSON and XML and when to use which approach for maximum productivity. Written by Seva Safris on Toptal and editorial selection by Christianlauer. Read the article here: https://www.toptal.com/web/json-vs-xml-part-3
