Pay Me My Money Down
It’s dreadfully sad, and incredibly frustrating, that we in the Grand Game of Software Engineering have to continually expend vast amounts of energy in order to get paid what we’re worth.
Aside from the fact, somewhat akin to miners chipping away at the coal face, that the company could not function without our specialised skills — we have already invested significant amounts of our time and money in education and put up with a lot of corporate nonsense in order to have gained sufficient experience to get where we are today.
That is, in opposition, to the ranks of management whose contribution to the ecosystem consists of supporting the sale of laminators for their online certifications, the continued manufacture of polyester for their garments, and generally the increased cost of air conditioning office space due to the proliferation of hot air in their immediate vicinity.
