A diversion within a disguise within a directive.

It’s unfortunate that as a somewhat senior software engineer, if you care about the job title kind of thing, that other less experienced or neophyte engineers can often look to you for cues not only in how to approach problems but also how to behave in the corporate maelstrom.

This, naturally, can be incredibly awkward if you’re even more of a petulant adolescent now than you’ve ever been before, and you feel that the modern corporate attitude of treating employees like schoolchildren triggers something inside you that wants to dunk the project manager’s head down the nearest toilet basin and pull the chain¹.

Add to that, the soul crushing boredom of the modern day corporate dystopia in which the Grand Game plays out just really does just make you want to scream, cry, defenestrate, or at least set fire to a few packs of multicoloured Post-Its on a regular basis as a act of rebellion.

Thing is, I’ve been that person who’s yawned pointedly on camera, in glorious theatrical fashion, when some middle management droid goes off in an irrelevant direction about something utterly inconsequential that less reactionary individuals would ordinarily just sit through and try incredibly hard to look interested and attentive.
