Software engineering is a rapidly growing field. Every company or startup that requires an online presence will achieve it through a customized website or mobile applications and this task will be done by software engineers.

Because of high demand and attractive pay many peoples are switching their careers to software engineering. But the question arises, Is software engineering really a good career choice?

With rising demand, competition for becoming a hireable engineer is also increasing. It is simple to find a software engineer, but it is hard to find a great software engineer.

To excel at anything, you must first understand WHY you are doing it. Good reason leads to a great purpose. Great purpose leads to a significant commitment. Significant commitment leads to tremendous focus. Tremendous focus leads to great work. Great work gives fulfillment in life.

When people come to work with a higher sense of purpose, they find it easier to weather hard times or even to find opportunities in those hard times. People who come to work with a clear sense of why are less prone to giving up after a few failures because they understand the higher cause — Simon Sinek

The founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg had a vital purpose that inspired him to build FACEMASH which allowed users to rate which of two women was hotter. The motivational fuel for Zuckerberg was a passion, rather than a love for coding. Code was only a tool to accomplish it.

The majority of people opt to work as software engineers for the money. But if you do something solely for money, even something you love to do, you put that love at risk. Money is a byproduct of your work in any field.

First, we make sacrifices to LEARN, later on, we remove L from it. People get paid exorbitantly for the sensible work they do.

Let’s wrap it up

Software engineering can be a rewarding career choice only if you have a strong vision and are destined for something greater.

If you have a passionate why for which you can do anything and can endure back pain. If you enjoy learning new technology, tackling challenges, and coming up with solutions.

Before making the leap into the software field, consider your why.

Don’t make a jump because it is highly romanticized in the media, such as “learn to code and become a millionaire,” “code and you can change the world,” blah blah. Software engineering is just another job. It is not some final destination where everyone is happy and content with their job.

That’s it. Thanks for reading
