For all those Python developers who are wondering:

  • How will we be able to migrate to Python 4.0?

Well, let me tell you that Python 4 will probably never arrive. And this is not me saying this, but the creator of the Python programming language himself: Guido Van Rossum.

So please, nobody ask about the Python 4.0 release date.

The creator of the Python programming language, Guido van Rossum, recently took to Reddit to explain why Python 4.0 might never arrive. Although the new version has been in development since 2000, van Rossum explained that he’s not even sure it will be worth releasing at this point — and he made the decision to freeze Python 3.8 and release 3.9 instead because too many changes were being proposed.

This came to light a few days ago in an interview (Q&A with Guido van Rossum, Inventor of Python) that Francesca Lazzeri — Microsoft Principal Advocate Manager, Microsoft Reactor, did with Guido Van Rossum, in which he himself doubted whether Python 4.0 will ever be released.
