In the field of data, in addition to Data Scientists and Data Engineers, there are also more and more job postings for Big Data Engineers — but what do they do and what can they earn?

What are the Job Tasks?

As a Big Data Engineer, you provide the data that your colleagues from Data Science and Analytics need to perform analyses. The (Big) Data comes in unstructured, semi structured or structured form from various sources like ERP, HR, Marketing or IoT systems. By building up and using pipelines and a script, you automatically bring it into the right format and to the desired storage location. That could be for example a data platform like a Data Warehouse, Data Lake or even Data Lakehouse. In your daily work, you are usually accompanied by programming languages like Python and SQL and using Big Data Tools like Hadoop or using the cloud and services of the big providers like Google, AWS or Microsoft.
