The Golden Nugget Of Accountability
We all shovel that, err, sand from one place to another — but it’s worth noticing what might sometimes be buried within it.
You know those moments when you’re driving down the road heading somewhere and all of a sudden you’re several miles ahead, or even already arriving at home, and you get that awful cold shiver and realise that you weren’t paying attention and could have died?
Ok, hold that thought. You should have been paying attention, of course, so try not to do it again — but there are other situations in life where this also happens and where it’s perfectly ok not to admonish yourself for not being “in the moment”. And, very importantly, not to worry at all about what happened during that time as it was completely and utterly inconsequential.
One of those times is, you’ve probably already guessed, the time that you spend in meetings when you’d be much more usefully and efficiently occupied, from a business perspective, actually doing something with your time.
In fact, it can be a bit of a blessing all round that your mind decides to switch on the old autopilot and properly tune out during pretty much all meetings, unless you’re the one speaking, that is.
