The Reality of “Working for Yourself”
Perhaps you’re just swapping the frying pan for the fire?
I listen to the radio a fair bit, especially in the very early mornings as I’m getting ready for my daily Atlantic drenching, sorry, walk by the coast.
Usually it’s BBC Radio 4, primarily because it’s a station that is thankfully completely devoid of pulsing music and endless mind melting adverts presented at an ear shatteringly high volume. It has that kind of warm and reassuring “everything is alright” vibe, backed up by the dependable and always wonderfully soporific shipping forecast¹.
I do try to avoid the news though, it is the BBC after all. There’s only so much of the “asking politicians the same questions but not getting any answers” kind of dialogue that you can listen to, before going to the shed for a lump hammer in order to perform some repeated percussive maintenance on the HomePod.
However, there are some rather thought provoking programs that pop up before the Today show, or the bizarre collection of anachronistic religious programs on a Sunday morning, that do catch the ear and kick off a train of thought that often persists throughout the day².
This morning there were a group of people discussing how they’d totally had enough of their day jobs, something I think that we can all relate to at one time or…
