There are many well documented issues with the hiring process in software engineering from the extraordinarily long lead times involved to the utter dearth of technical ability habitually applied by both companies and recruiters to the hiring process itself.

Let’s take a whirlwind tour of the black hole of hiring in the 21st century and see how its fed equally by bloated red giants of recruiter ineptitude, tired bulbous supergiants of backward spinning HR departments, and the wannabe protostar startups that gravitationally collapsed but their fire just went on out.

It’s often said, and quite rightfully, that when the market is as it is now in 2021 that there are so many people changing jobs and so many companies bereft of talent that any recruitment agency just throws any old resumes at a company and charges an absolute mint for tiresome bother it is.

It’s just pure profit.
