Assuming you found a job you like, what are the mandatory, nice to have, and don’t care factors on the contract?

Let’t not talk about everyday perks such as free coffee or trivial perks such as discounted protein bars, let’s talk about the bread and butter of what a job actually gives you, i.e. what’s actually down on the contract of employment that you’re going to have to sign.

Note: This missive is primarily for the permanent workers among you. The contractor types know full well that cash is already the bottom line and from that sprouts all other provision for existence. You just have to get those things yourself from the cash and not depend on some company doing it for you. Probably the best way, to be honest, but let’s not digress already.

I’m going to leave aside the obvious ones such as trust (remote working), care (a proper office desk and chair), and wellbeing (HR keeping away from you as much as possible, no mandatory fun, and definitely no regular ‘town hall’ meetings that encroach on your own time and sanity).

So, just what factors are non-negotiable, nice, or just plain horrible when it comes to matching a job you want to do with getting proper recompense for doing it?

That’s what we’re going to talk about today.
