It’s a jungle out there, an infuriating maze, can you hack your way through it?

You may think, as a neophyte developer early in your notional career in the Grand Game of Software Engineer that the running recruitment pipelines, as HR likes to call¹ the recruitment process these days, are a complex and detailed affair full of consummate professionals at the top of their game, that ultimately lead to the hiring of the specific key people in order to facilitate the optimum running of a business.

Hold that thought, just for a second.

  • If you’re laughing now, or at least smiling to yourself in an open office trying to hide your job applications on LinkedIn, then you’re most likely a fellow progressive engineer.
  • If you just automatically looked over your shoulder, with a twinge of imposter syndrome or outright fear in your stomach— like you had a dream where you were naked and all of your teeth fell out — then you most likely “work” in HR.
  • And, if you’re already annoyed, immediately checked out who wrote this damn article, quickly searched to see how you can contact them (and their current employer) to send a sternly worded email then you’re, very definitely, a hiring manager of some sort.
