In 1977, three home computers came onto the market, from Apple, Commodore and Tandy, that would go on to change the world. They wouldn’t have that effect straight away though. Hobbyists and enthusiasts found them fascinating, and taught themselves to write some toy programs in BASIC. Worldwide, they bought a few hundred computers a month.
