Modern day training isn’t a patch on what it used to be and it’s not just the way it’s delivered either — it’s the lowest common denominator content too.

Training, much like the agile development methodology, is an easy target to ridicule in the modern day Grand Game of Software Engineering.

Primarily that’s because they’re both eye-wateringly expensive to acquire, are preached by fully invested true believing evangelists that are immune to questioning and detailed cross-examination, and (most importantly for us progressive engineers) are incredibly boring to sit through as they tend to have zero useful information content.

In fact I’ve already written specifically before about how training has changed beyond recognition over the years, primarily due to the now “as cheap as possible” corporate approach to upskilling¹ work units via online seminars, training courses, and fancifully named webinars that deliver content that’s already freely available on YouTube (presented by more talented, and definitely more motivated, individuals).

The deeper problem is that if you’re unfortunate enough to have to attend such events, which again are usually now online as it’s cheaper for HR and more profitable for the “training” company to provide, the information content is so low that even Claude
