Robert C. Martin, a famous software developer, says that being stuck in one language can be a mistake for the programmer and the person who hires them. Martin thinks that the best people in the field are those who are good at “programming itself” and are willing to try out other languages when they need to solve a problem.

The best programmers are open to using other languages if that’s what the problem calls for. I think it’s a bad idea to look for a programmer who knows, says Java. That’s just stupid. Find and hire programmers who can write code in any language.

You should make it easy for employees to share their knowledge through pair and mob programming.

A programmer or employer who gets stuck on the languages is probably making a mistake.

Languages are great, but they shouldn’t be more important than making good software. A good programmer knows how to use them and can build great things with any of them. If you only look for language experts or “snobs,” you might miss out on great talent.
