Weaponised Innocence
If you thought weaponised incompetence was a master stroke, just wait until you dial down your shame to zero.
Many times the cognitive dissonance inherent in the Grand Game of Software Engineering has perplexed me, and on several occasions it’s even brought me to the brink of tears — leaving me wishing the whole thing was a bad dream and that I somehow could just wake up and get on with my life.
This was especially the case when what’s preached by the managerial PMP prospectus thumpers, HR scripture compliance officers, and agile evangelists goes so determinedly against getting any work done in an efficient, friendly, and above all sanity preserving workplace.
Fortunately, us progressive engineers now have many tools at our disposable to dismantle the doctrine and diktat and firmly push back¹against the rushing tide of bullshit that threatens to engulf us on a daily basis.
We can at the very least resist the poison of PowerPoint, the use of anachronistic and actively aggressive photocopiers, and even the utter brain dissolving tedious miasma of filling in forms during a performance review cycle² by feigning the old favourite “weaponised incompetence”.
