What are Data Spaces?
How the Big Players from the US already have the Solution on the Market
It was more by chance that I became aware of Data Spaces. I thought a new technical solution or approach like last paradigms we all heard of: Data Lakes, Data Warehouse, Data Marts and so on?
To not spoil too much: I really don’t think so but let’s start with the definition of a Data Space:
The term Data Space refers to a relatively new approach to information integration that is intended to solve problems associated with both physical and virtual integration approaches. In order to keep the effort required to create an integration architecture to a minimum, Data Spaces do not require a fixed target structure in advance. Instead, existing matching and mapping techniques are used to make data available in a system regardless of the level of integration. The decentralized approach of Data Spaces provides the basis for the digital sovereignty of companies, as data can remain in the sphere of influence of the data originator until it is retrieved. Data Spaces are gradually growing with their task of enabling new business models such as pay-as-you-go when required.
