For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a huge sci-fi nerd. I love all the old, campy science fiction shows and even some of the remakes. Warp drive, teleporters, tricorders and even talking computers — I loved it all.

As a kid, I dreamed of the day when our technology would even remotely resemble that of my favorite shows. As the decades have come and gone, we’ve run — not walked — toward that future.

In recent years especially, artificial intelligence has advanced by leaps and bounds to the point where it’s more capable than ever before of handling tasks that were once only possible by flesh and blood humans. This leads me to wonder: where is all of this going? And is this a future we want?

Whether you love it or hate it, you have to admit that artificial intelligence is poised to transform our daily lives. What was once nothing but a blip on the distant horizon has become an increasingly present reality, and we can no longer ignore it.
