Apple just REMOVED the SIM tray from their latest iPhone 14 line-up, and we’ve got a problem.

Let’s get the basics out of the way, your sim card has all your mobile phone/contact information on it. No SIM tray means there’s no place to insert the SIM resulting in no phone number. Right. Well, wrong.

Apple has also released support for a new technology called ‘e-SIM’, this technology allows users to access their phone number/contact list whilst not having a physical SIM inside the device.

Pro’s

You don’t have to worry about the SIM getting damaged, you can have a multitude of e-SIMs on a single device.

Easier to swap between mobile carriers.

Con’s

Now, this new e-SIM technology has made it a lot harder to swap from iOS to Android by not letting you simply switch out the SIM and plug it into a new phone, further locking the end user into the Apple ecosystem.

This is essentially a re-run of 2017 when Apple decided to remove a past feature and market it as a new one, the headphone jack.

I keep coming back to that point in my articles because history IS repeating itself.
