Why I Like Using Paid Apps
There is no free lunch.
In the last few years, we have become very used to free apps and services.
Think about some of the most popular apps you use every day: Google Search, Google Drive, Google Docs, Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok.
What do all of these apps have in common? They are free. You don’t pay a dime to use them.
These apps have spoiled us. Some of them provide us with a ton of value and some provide us with endless content to entertain us.
That makes it very difficult for us to justify actually paying for an app. Given how much we get out of these free apps, we have set a very high bar for what we should expect from free apps.
The reasoning makes sense. You get so much value for FREE. Now, that you are paying for something, you would expect it to give you exponentially more value.
However, if you look behind the curtain, these apps are not really free. There is no free lunch. If you are not paying, these apps and their companies are making money out of you in some other way.
There’s a big tradeoff you make when choosing a free app over a paid one.
