Why many businesses post-pandemic are floundering in a tsunami of remote working.

Let’s put aside the myriad advantages for employees when it comes to remote working, as I’ve covered many of these in past articles, and take a look at why remote working is so very important for any software related business that wants to succeed in the future.

It’s already obvious that there’s a narrative out there driven in part by web based commentary such as BBC Worklife and The Economist to get people back into the office in the name of “creativity, collaboration, and social well being”.

To counter that we have actual real world evidence of employees being more efficient, happier, and willing to switch employers to continue to enjoy trust in their own work lives and not be treated like naughty schoolchildren.

Although the narrative has continued with everything from “quiet quitting” (doing your job) to “bare minimum mondays” (this was already a thing, where have you been?), and now “proximity bias” (oh, please!) they are already seen to be the most transparent exercise in indoctrination since the agile evangelists tried to convince us that starting a project without knowing what you’re trying to make was some kind of advancement in software development methodology.
