As part of a new series, we will look at different stakeholders in the art and collectibles (A&C) industry to discover how they are using Codex Protocol. In this post we are focused on galleries.

We interviewed Krypto Studios, an art gallery based in Miami, to see how they use Codex to improve their business and support their artists. They talked to us about what they are already doing with Codex, what they envision for the future, and how easy it has been to use.

How do you use the Codex Registry?

We use the Codex Registry to register creations from our art collective and clients, while creating awareness of useful blockchain applications in real life scenarios.

Together with our crypto-themed art gallery, we showcase the Codex technology to help educate and promote adoption.

How do you envisage the use of Codex registry benefitting your artists and clients?

We believe that the platform can be a great tool for artists to professionally manage their portfolios, monetize, transfer or license their creative work. It is also a great opportunity for new artists to be involved with a trending technology that provides extra visibility.

As for clients, we see great potential in streamlining notary and certification services, copyrights registration/management and many more applications.

What has been your experience using Codex?

Our initial experience has been great. We love how easy it is to create a record and load the details on the Codex blockchain. The usability of the Codex Viewer is outstanding. Whenever we’ve had questions the Codex team has been quick to support.

What makes you the most excited about what Codex can do for your artists and clients?

We are very happy for the usability of the Codex tools as they provide artists/clients a great starting kit to track ownership and provenance of their creations and their purchases, as well as sharing those details with others when required. It’s very gratifying to see that they are able to manage the registration processes by themselves after little directions.

Any feedback from artists or clients on using Codex?

We have artists very excited about having their pieces on the Registry. Once they understand the basics, they really love the concept and how simple it is to use. However, this technology is still new for most galleries and artists. They are amazed for the potential of the technology but are still very new to the space and require a lot of support. We look at this as a challenge, but also a big opportunity for education and awareness creation.

Jay VanderHoff, professional illustrator and art curator, noted:

“Proper establishment of provenance has been difficult in the art and collectible markets until now. Codex also allows artists and collectors a means of buying and selling assets using crypto via the registry. Codex brings the art and collectible industry into the 21st century!”

Has anything surprised you with your use of Codex?

I am really surprised of how easy it is to get started using the platform. I particularly like the ability to upload supporting documents and details about each piece, and how fast you can get artists started on a journey that will be very beneficial to them.

What features would you like to see next?

We would like to have the ability of creating and managing Galleries (as you have shown in the Beta). Also the capability of managing limited editions.

Last but not least, a reliable and tramper free tagging system integrated with the Codex platform that you can use with different objects and on documents.

The Codex Registry is now open for anyone to create Records and track the provenance of works in their possession. Krypto Studios exemplifies the benefits a gallery can gain from using the Codex Registry, and we encourage other galleries to check out Codex and begin creating Records for their works.

About Codex

Codex is the leading decentralized asset registry for the $2 trillion arts & collectibles (“A&C”) ecosystem, which includes art, fine wine, collectible cars, antiques, decorative arts, coins, watches, jewelry, and more. Powered by the CodexCoin native token, the Codex Protocol is open source, allowing third-party players in the A&C ecosystem to build applications and utilize the title system. Codex’s landmark application, Biddable, is a title-escrow system built on the Codex Protocol, which solves long-standing challenges in auctions: non-performing bidders, lack of privacy, and bidder access. The Codex Protocol and CodexCoin will be adopted as the only cryptocurrency by The Codex Consortium, a group of major stakeholders in the A&C space who facilitate over $6 Billion in sales to millions of bidders across tens of thousands of auctions from 5,000 auction houses in over 50 countries.
