Authoring a Book

Making a dream turn into a reality

I have always wanted to be published and actually write a book. So my first step is to create a blog, which I started few years ago and tied it up with my passion towards photography. Eventually, I started writing my documentation at work like book pages and began to imagine that it will be published soon.

Years went by and finally an opportunity opened up — when I received an email from a guy name Sumeet Sawant who introduced him as Author Relations Executive from PacktPub. This is my chance. I can write this book. I can share something good since I do love the topic and I believe in the technology. The topic was PhantomJS.

I remember it was a year ago when I first used PhantomJS. It is a very useful technology, and I used it for a work related project I was doing. At that time, there was nothing like PhantomJS. The technology was ground breaking and writing a book about it was just hard to pass up. So in short I said Yes, and I accept the project.

Little did I know, writing a book was a lot more difficult than typing some code. It took me a while to finish the book, some of the examples I have written became obsolete since I reference a lot of social media and they change a lot overtime. I had my bouts with writer’s block— staring at a blank screen without anything good to write on the page. I mostly failed to meet deadlines for my chapters, and there are ton of review comments afterwards.

I can say that it was dreadfully stressful but with the help of family, friends and the excellent team from PacktPub I was able to complete the book, all I can say is that I was very happy and proud to accomplish something this big. Getting Started with PhantomJS is now published and can be bought from PacktPub and Amazon.

As I look back, I really enjoyed writing the book and it was a dream come true.
