After attending a fascinating talk on “The Golden Age of AI” at Talent Garden, it got me thinking about all the possibilities AI could bring when implemented into IoT, so here’s what I found.
It is true that IoT or Internet of Things revolution is going on, and AI or Artificial Intelligence can play a vital role in it. The goal of applying AI to IoT systems is effectively placing an additional layer of intelligence across the entire IoT stack — from infrastructure all the way to applications.
What is IoT? 🤷♂️
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term that has been introduced in recent years to define objects that are able to connect and transfer data via the Internet. ‘Thing’ refers to a device that is connected to the internet and transfers the device information to other devices. The cloud-based IoT is used to connect a wide range of things such as vehicles, mobile devices, sensors, industrial equipment and manufacturing machines to develop various smart systems it includes smart city and smart home, smart grid, smart industry, intelligent vehicle, smart health, and smart environmental monitoring. In the IoT, cloud computing environment has made the task of handling the large volume of data generated by connecting devices easy and provides the IoT devices with resources on-demand.
Problems with the advancement in IoT 🤦♂
IoT will produce a treasure trove of big data — data that can help cities predict accidents and crimes, give doctors real-time insight into information from pacemakers or biochips, enable optimized productivity across industries through predictive maintenance on equipment and machinery, create brilliant homes with connected appliances and provide critical communication between self-driving cars. The possibilities that IoT brings to the table are endless.
